After our first Neko Cafe back in June of 2016 becoming a huge success, we decided to hold another! On Saturday, January 28th, MORI by Art+Flea collaborated with the Hawaiian Humane Society & Morning Glass Coffee to host a cat cafe where people could come into the shop and have an opportunity to play with and possibly adopt a cat. With the successful turnout of the first event, we worked with the open-admissions shelter in better accommodating the crowd by giving the opportunity to make early reservations online so people could plan ahead and save specific time slots to attend the event.
Even with the early reservations, the event attracted over 600 people and only 20 cats up for adoption. From 10AM to 3PM, groups of people would go inside for 15 minutes to look and play with the cats. On top of having the opportunity to play with cats from the Hawaiian Humane Society, this unique cat experience featured a variety of special cat themed products dedicated for this event. From MORI cat themed shirts to cat design cards made by local artists, every cat lover would struggle to decide which products to buy and take home. Photo Ops Hawaii even provided the event with a photo booth for people to take silly pictures and have a memento for themselves. Morning Glass also offered a special food menu for both cats and cat lovers so no one would go hungry during play time.
To end the second Neko Cafe with a bang, The Maneki Nekos did a live performance right outside of the shop for people to enjoy while waiting in line to have their turn with the cats. By the end of the event, more than six cats went home with their new family.
