The Hawaiian petrel ('ua'u) is an endangered seabird that mates for life, returning to the same nest every year.
Urban development poses a great risk to this species–the birds fly at night and get confused by bright lights. Introduced predators (like cats, rats, and mongoose) are also dangers for this species. To help ʻuaʻu, use shielded lights outside your home and keep pet cats indoors.
