SEA PATTERNS T-SHIRT BY MANNY ALOHA
About the Artist
Manny Aloha is Emanuel Florante Pangilinan, a Filipino-American artist born in Manhattan in September 1973. His drawings, paintings and poems are fueled by a life immersed in surfing. He often writes and draws immediately after surfing to capture magical moments, feelings and the overall “lightness of being” achieved from the exhilaration of gliding on waves. Manny creates to capture the mystery and beauty of surfing life. He works at creating beauty with this definition in mind, "Beauty touches the senses, reaches the heart, and attracts us into life." -by James Hillman.
Manny spent his teenage years skateboarding in New York City's Brooklyn Banks during the birth of street skating and invented one of skating's staple street tricks - the Nose-Slide, with Jefferson Pang (Brooklyn's first Pro Skater) in the Fall of 1989. He received a BFA in Painting from Penn State University in 1996. He had his first solo exhibition in NYC in 1997. In 2002 he began designing skateboards in NYC under the name Roll Skateboards which helped the movement into the surge in high performance cruiser boards. In 2005 he won a Surf Style Skate Contest in NYC during the longboard skateboard resurgence and was flown to Japan to Skate Down Mt. Fuji.
He has been living in Honolulu since 2005 and spends his free time surfing with his wife and two sons.
