Golden Lei Mahina Necklace Collaboration with Leihekili
The kūpeʻe is a nocturnal animal that hides during the day and appears to feed only on the darkest of nights. The golden ring around the kūpe‘e shell symbolizes muku, the mark of an absent moon on the Hawaiian tide calendar; this is the preferred time to pick kūpeʻe. The name of this piece comes from 2 Hawaiian words, “lei” meaning adornment, and “mahina” meaning moon.
