About the Artist

Jahziel is an artist based in Honolulu, Hawaii whose main form of artistic expression is digital illustration. Although she taps into other forms like ceramics, digital media plays a prominent role in her artistic presence. With the intention of learning more about her Filipina heritage, she turned to illustration as the vast textiles, diverse vegetation, and unique symbolism inspired her to create her own work. As she continued to illustrate, she also incorporated aesthetics that are unique to Hawaii, the place she was born and raised in. Although this was her first intention while creating, Jahziel gained supporters from the Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community who saw representation in her work. So even though she has more Filipina focused work, she has now created a style that signifies AAPI beauty in the feminine art community, a community that tends to be Eurocentric. She strives to create work that expresses brown beauty and strong, feminine energy; a concept that any one from any culture can relate to.
